about Leah

Bonjour

Hi there!

I'm a PNW, Washington-based photographer who loves to travel! Born and raised in Kansas, my eyes are constantly in awe of the natural beauty here in this state, especially our home on Whidbey Island.

My passion for photography has been a growing one since I was young. Since middle school, I knew I wanted photography to be a big part of my life, and once in highschool I started those classes as soon as I could. Consequently, I spent most of my free time those days in the dark room after school, developing film and printing photographs until the janitor kicked me out. It was there that I learned the basics of 35mm SLR film photography. I learned the camera inside and out, quite literally. I had to master loading my own film onto reels in a pitch black room so they could be processed and developed. My teacher there saw my love for the art, and instilled in me a passion for photography that continued to grow as I learned with each passing year.

The portfolio I sent in my senior year, received the highest and rarest score of a 5 in my advanced placement tests for college. (Nevermind what my score was in AP Calculus or English! Ha!)

As I moved into college I had to ask myself how photography was going to remain a part of my life, because at the time the college I attended didn't offer it as more than a minor degree. (I chose to major in graphic design, another thing I really enjoy!)

I was soon stepping into the world of digital photography, and I was so grateful for all of the education I had received in studying film. I knew how to really use a camera's settings to master any lighting situation I was in, and have never relied on any kind of auto settings to carry me through shoots. While I still miss and love using film, I so appreciate the flexiblity and bit of freedom that digital files give us today. In this fast paced and ever-changing world, I continue to learn as much as I can from local creatives and online seminars of those who I've found share my style and love for creativity.

Through the Lord's guidance, and after marrying my sweetheart, he and I decided more of an entrepreneur approach was best, rather than getting a degree. He encouraged me to pursue a photography business of my own. I am so grateful for this decision and how it has allowed me to first support and serve my growing family over the years while also doing something I truly enjoy.

After shooting my first wedding in Kansas back in 2008, I can say I have learned and grown in many ways. I have shot numerous weddings, engagements, and portrait sessions since then and have really refined my own sense quality, technique, & style. I have a joy for finding beautiful light and find I am often chasing that in my sessions with clients or in nature.

My passion for what I do is reflected in my work, and I hope that my clients feel that every time they work with me. I cannot help but feel humbled and delighted everytime I'm welcomed to document such sacred moments in time for those I serve.

My top priority in life is serving my family and homeschooling our kids. I currently take a selected amount of shoots every year in order to keep up with our busy schedules. My husband Ben and I have 4 chidren: Ethan, Asher, Eleanor, and Anna. We couldn't love our life together more. I give all credit and glory to my Lord for the success of this endeavor. He is my one true guide for all that I do.
